Let There Be Light: Reflections on Jesus, the Bible, and Homosexuality

Into the darkness and chaos of creation, God spoke light, life, and beauty. Jesus came as the light of the world and brought grace, forgiveness, and abundance of life. We believe that God continues to speak light into our world today. This series takes a deep look into the Bible, the history of how certain passages have been used to oppress people groups, and how God shines more light onto long-held but often harmful beliefs when we seek to interpret Scripture responsibly. Following the “Seven Guidelines for Interpreting Scripture,” as adopted by the Presbyterian Church (USA), this series offers an honest examination of what the Bible says and doesn’t say about topics such as slavery, the role of women in the church, and human sexuality.

This sermon series takes its title and outline from the book Jesus, the Bible, and Homosexuality: Explode the Myths, Heal the Church by Bible scholar and former Moderator of the Presbyterian Church USA, Dr. Jack Rogers. Throughout the series, members and friends of Summit share their own personal stories of why this book and this conversation matter to them.
